5 or our grandkids were over today. I was showing them some of the pens I had made since we last saw them. The two older one picked out a pen they liked and could use in school as well as home. I took a pen a drew a line on our granddaughters arm. She told me to get in time out right how. I ask were I should go for time out. She told me to go to my room, lay down and watch a movie or take a nap. She did allow me to get out of time out as long as I was good. Did learn anything....Yes I did... I like being put in time out.
It's been raining on and off today or I would have allowed the two older one make a pen. I told them they could the next time they are here.

Hi Dan; I never could figure out that time out thing. My wife would always send the boys to their room for a time out. That's where all their toys were, the tv and stereo, their bed if they wanted to take a nap. Just never made any sence to me. When I had a time out, it was in the corner facing the wall on my knees, and parents and teachers were allowed to hit you with a paddle, stick, ruler or the open hand. Ah, the good old days !! Got the same treatment with one difference.... dried corn kernels under the knees. Those triangle shaped wooden rulers also worked well in tweaking one's attitude

I was hit with a 'ruler' by a teacher just once in 9th grade.
I took it away and broke it in front of him.....went to the office and my parents were call in. I had been strck in the head. My father made it very clear that the only person that had permission to strike me in anyway .... was not someone hired by the school. Remember, this was back in the 60's.....times have changed greatly since then.
Punishment at our home was work......or should I say 'extra work'. And there was always plenty.

Didn't hurt us one bit.....except for the blisters on our hands.
