Hello, I've just arrived here, I have no idea why I decided that making a pen was a good idea, probably related to losing my lovely Parker Duofold vacuumatic 20 years ago, I'm still upset.
I found this website while searching for information about triple lead threads, I didn't fancy the expense of buying those taps and dies. I've made my own and just finished off making the major components of the first pen, Ebonite and acrylic are certainly tricky materials to work with, lots to learn. There was some very useful information in the archive regarding making taps with triple leads, thanks.
The tap and die are done in O1 tool steel, hardened and tempered, again a bit tricky to work out the interference required. The thread pitch is 0.833mm as I could use the 2.5mm pitch setting on the lathe and divide by 3 to make a triple lead, as near as I can get to the 0.8 off the shelf items. Seems to have done the job for first attempt.
