Sanded hickory nuts, stacked them together, drilled and turned them. Sounds simple but was VERY time-consuming. Not a recommended use of a Saturday afternoon but it sure did smell good.
I like it. The pattern is really interesting. Now I wish I had a hickory tree. I wonder if Chestnuts would work? A roasted Chestnut pen so if you got hungry, you would always have a snack handy.[]
I'm thinking that it would work better if I had cast it under pressure or vaccuum or whatever, so some of the casting terial would have been sucked into the voicds between shell and nut meat. I think that would lesson the chipping and the need to fill in the spaces with saw dust and CA.
Any casters interested in trying it out, email me and I'll drop a "blank" into the mail for you. (Well, I'll mail you a stack of nuts actually.)
