Gluten Free Diet?

Wow. Just found out I have a wheat allergy and need to start a gluten free diet. Or pretty much gluten free. I have recovered from a couple different cancer bouts the past 5 years and a new knee last year but I think this diet will be harder. Anyone like these food groups?

Good luck. We have tried to do a gluten, Casein free diet for my son before and it is a total pain. Places like Trader Joes, Whole Foods and Fresh and Easy will be you new friend.

Vick.. I'll check out Whole Foods. There is one nearby plus Boulder Colo is close and will probably have restaurants for that type of diet. Could be worse. At least Beer is allowed. No, wait... darn. Only potato vodka and Tequila are allowed. Well, I will sacrifice in the name of good health! :)

Right. This could be breakfast for me. Even the beer. Don't know yet what the diet will be but one can imagine. Cross off fast food places where we take the grandkids sometimes. Maybe Chinese? Probably vegetarian.

On the lighter side I just returned from a 2,500 mile trip through New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, back to NM then home to Colorado. And I ate a LOT of gluten. Nice trip, nice weather, nice people, and good food. I missed Arizona Silhouette though. I was in Phoenix before I realized they were in Yuma. Maybe next time....
 
You can get gluten free beer, it is make with sourgum (sp?). Red River by AB is one such brew. Has a slightly different after taste, but isn't bad.

There are websites out there that help with finding foods that fit into your new diet. I highly recommend searching some of them out. I don't know of any off hand, but my co worker is on gluten free and has mentioned a few in the past.
 
Are you just allergic to wheat or do you have Celiac Disease? Either is going to be a major inconvenience as there is wheat or gluten in many things that we commonly eat every day. People with Celiac Disease have to be especially careful as it can cause very serious problems. (I have a close friend who has this infirmity.)

Get on the Internet and plug in "celiac disease" and you will find loads of sites that list safe foods and lots of gluten-free recipes that you can use. And cheer up.....this isn't the end of the world. After all, they could have told you that you were allergic to wood!!:D

My dad had many food allergies, is now able to eat whatever he wants. Before undergoing the treatment, he was on a rotation diet, not eating any type of food more than once every four days.

Yes it is called "Celiac Sprue"</u>. I just searched the web and found a site called the "Celiac Sprue Foundation" at http://www.csaceliacs.org/ with much information and local support groups. Thanks folks for your helpful comments. :)

Shouldn't affect my penturning though!
 
Our son has wheat and gluten allergies.

We use Enzymes to treat it and he does very well with it.

Just a thought, I'd rather take enzymes 30 minutes before every meal than limit so severely what I can eat if it's possible.

My brother, who lives in Colorado Springs, has Celiacs Disease. NO gluten what so ever or he gets sick enough to die. His good buddy started a bakery in Colo Springs of NO GLUTEN products AND it tastes GREAT. The buddy's daughter has Celiacs. They ship stuff to Denver.(We moved from Highlands Ranch to Phoenix in September.) There is one other bakery in Denver that does Gluten Free. Whole Foods is good, no Trader Joe's in Colo yet, bummer. No beer, but my brother has become a wine cono-suer, well he drinks a lot of wine and likes it. This is serious stuff. My wife is a personal chef and had NO Gluten clients, no flour or they get really sick. Take Care. If you want my little bro's phone number or anything just PM me.

I was born with coeliacs disease 47 years ago, the food groups have also been extended to include anything made with oats, rye and barley as well as the wheat and gluten products. Anyone with this condition has my sympathy.
