Got word Tuesday that tomorrow will be my last day, at least for awhile.
We have work ahead but they haven't even poured the concrete yet so it will be awhile before they are crying for cabinets. :frown:

SWMBO has a pretty good list for me ....

It could be worse. (It can ALWAYS be worse!)

Sorry to hear about your getting laid off, Lenny. I hope you can get back to work soon. I've been looking since November for another job in the health imaging field. I just started applying for jobs in other fields.

Gosh Lenny, sorry to hear about you getting laid off, even for a while, I hope they get the mud down and the sticks up so you can get back to work, most of the time the Honey Do's are harder than a paying job

I thought health related fields were pretty well insulated from things like this, I guess this is about the worst I've ever seen things in my 66 years, I hope for all you younger folks things turn around pretty quick.

That is one of the reasons I left Maine years ago....

Got laid off from a company that makes junk mail, how bad can that be? At least something will be coming around for you soon. And there's no better time to get all that firewood cut up.....

Scott (good luck to you) B

Man that sux , sorry to hear that Lenny . I hope you got a little cushion set aside to get you by till something comes up . I've been out since May and the field I was in for 36 years has gone to the younger crowd (Car stereo and security) so there aren't too many places that want 54 year old installers .
Hopefully this dismal economy will pick up soon .

Sorry to hear that . . .

Sorry to hear that from anyone.

As a petrochem instrumentation designer I have been laid-off more times than I care to remember . . . In case you are new to this "laid-off" thing, below are some suggestions . .

1. Get involved in a project or projects that will last a long time - "THEY WILL CALL YOU"

2. Plan a trip you have always wanted to take but never had the time - "THEY WILL CALL YOU"

3. Let your boss and your former co-workers know that this unemployment thing ain't so bad - "THEY WILL CALL YOU"

What ever you do, do not call your former employer and tell them, you NEED to return to work, you WILL work for LESS considering the state of the economy. Either of these two will result in the dumbest member of your bosses family to hired in your place.

All of the above is met in a sense of humor . . .

But seriously, STAY BUSY . . . .

Good luck,
Steve

Welcome to the world of PROFESSIONAL PEN MAKER, not by choice:). It ain't all bad...till the electric bill comes ... August in Augusta, Georgia.... There have been songs written about this kind of heat.

KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!

When I was self-employed I was used to having down times. I'm just lucky that I have something to go back to eventually. As Butch said, when you get to be our age the options aren't always there. My days of framing and climbing up and down ladders is a distant memory! Funny thing is, we expected it would be my wife who got laid off. She works for an attorney who specializes in Real Estate matters.

Thanks for the well wishes!

Sorry to hear that. I may be facing that same situation in the near future but it's a blessing in disguise if it happens since I loathe my job. Being a glorified babysitter sucks. I decided that if I get laid off I will use the unemployment to get my business going full time.

My last layoff was around 4 years ago... From a large subprime mortgage company! Talk about an albatross...

Good luck in your future. It all works out in the end.

Good luck....I was fortunate enough to work for a "no lay off" company for my 32 year career in industry...that followed 4 years of military service (also "no lay off") and preceeded 8 years of selling real estate. That was actually a no lay off job, you just didn't sell anything during bad times (but I was on pension and could ride them out). So I essentially had 40 years of job security. I've always been kind of sorry that life for everybody couldn't be like that.

Sorry to hear that man. I've been looking for IT support type work in the Columbus area for going on 2 years now, unemployment ran out 4 months ago. I've now finally settled with a staffing agency doing work in a manufacturing facility for eyeglasses making almost half what I made before.

Lenny,

I know what it is like to be out of work. Hang in there and get those little things done. You'll be glad you did.

As Grizz said, it's a great time to get some things done.

My boss was really sorry to have to do it. There have been many times in the past where he has given us "busy work" .... just to keep us going for a week or so but this time it's just going to be longer till there is anything .... and ideally he would like to see a little more ahead of us when we do come back.

I'm sure you'll be back to work in no time. You'll be glad you had this little vacation to get all that crap done you've been putting off...well, if you're like me, you've been putting stuff off.

That's exactly how I'm approaching it ..... at least for now.
