The Fusion refills are the same as the Mach3. Just an updated version. You can get the kits from Anthony at the Golden Nib, Or Ernie from Beartooth Woods.

The fusion and Mach 3 are different. I double checked and the fusion blades will not fit on the mach 3 head. I'll continue to look. The 1st picture below is the fusion and the second is the mach 3.

The Berea razors are mach3. Fusion refills WILL NOT FIT these heads. The Arizona Silohuette, Bear Tooth Woods, Berea Hardwoods and the Golden Nib heads that I buy will not fit.

Additionally, nowhere have I found a "gold tone" head.

I would also be interested in finding a Fusion head that will work with the Berea hardware and in gold. I have researched this extensively (looked all the way to the Asian distributors).

I buy razor sets 100s at the time and I don't think the Fusion sets currently exsist. I get numerous calls from customers that want gold hardware and razors that fit the Proglide (fusion) refill.

I would love to be wrong in saying they don't exsist, but I have been hunting this Easter Egg for some time now.

There is a seller of Fusion razors on etsy (75.00 each) but theses heads do not appear to be compatible with the existing Berea hardware, which eliminates the head for me until I sell my existing stock.

Found the gold Mach 3s!

Thanks Jim!
I'm still searching for Fusions, I know they must be made and sold, SOMEWHERE!

Andy, any chance the guy on Etsy is taking a retail razor pack and modifying it for his own handle rather than buying a hardware kit from one of the usual sources?

BTW - That gold Mach 3 will look great on one of your Fire & Ice blanks.

.

I looked at that as closely as I could online from pics, and didn't see how he could be. But that just makes it interesting, so I'm going to pick up one next trip to wallyworld and give it a try. (changing the handle, not shaving with it. I have about as much use for a razor as a snake does suspenders)

The guy on etsy is from California. I have already considered using a fusion razor, IT'S PLASTIC!

I'm gonna e-mail the etsy guy (after all, my market is nearly 4000 miles away) and see if he will give me the source of these heads.

You're right about the plastic. Everything Gillette sells today is all plastic. Maybe some of the first Fusions that hit the market were chrome, or a special edition was offered at some time, and the etsy guy has a stash of them. However I did find this ---

http://www.theartofshaving.com/fcc/proglide/92227

They offer a chrome Fusion in both powered and unpowered versions, but at $100 to $150 a copy. None of them have the same tip that the guy on etsy uses, but then that tip looks just like the ones sold on the Mach 3 kits.

Just some thoughts..... Gillette would obviously have design patents on their products. These eventually expire after a number of years, thus the Mach 3 razor is likely no longer covered and can be duplicated, but without the Gillette name. The Fusion has only been out a few years and would still be covered by design patents. I suspect that the above outfit has some agreement with Gillette to make these metal versions. At the prices they ask I'm sure it doesn't effect Gillette's market.

I just found this using Google (gillette fusion razor parts). Reading their description, they are buying the Gillette kits and disassembling them.

YEP! That's exactly what I figured. Chrome plating over plastic. I'll pass on that. I bet Berea will make this hardware after the Gillette patent expires.

I almost ordered one of the $75 etsy razors just to take apart and see if it is plastic with chrome plating. My experience with that proceedure (lifetime in boat and motorcycle parts) has left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Respectfully submitted.

I guess if the original handles are metal, they could be cut, drilled and tapped, or cut drilled and have a threaded rod epoxied in them... and then re-chromed like they say.
I might have to try that. Sounds like a good idea. But is that legal, or could that turn into a Mont Blanc type dispute...?

My thinking, exactly, Jeremy. And, all the Fusions that I have seen revel plastic when disassembled. DAMHIKT.
