I have just started turning pens about 2 weeks ago. I went to the Woodworking show here in Minneapolis and made my first pen with Kirk Deheer. After I saw the finished product and showed it to a few people at work I was hooked. I wen't out and spend a lot of money

I have already had a great review from a local turner who sells high end bowls. He stopped into work and used my pen and was excited that I am also taking up this hobby. I have also already sold a few at work! I am hoping to make a little extra cash with this new found addiction. I do have a background in furniture making and cabinets but never got into turning until recently.

I have been on the IAP website everyday trying to learn as I go! Thanks for all the helpful information!!!

Welcome

Welcome from Rockford, MN.
You'll find IAP to be great resource for pen-turning related information and much more (e.g. search tool, library, group buys, various forums, vendors, etc.). A great thing about pen turning is variety when it comes to turning stock (woods, acrylics, metals, antler), designs, and pen kits. No pen ever needs to be like the last. And if you ever need a break from pens, there's always bottle stoppers, bowls, vases, lidded boxes, and chess pieces.
Have fun!

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.
