Hello fellow IAP members and guests,

I am wondering if any of you use Pilot FriXion pens in/on any of your woodworking projects. It can be pretty cool stuff - it "erases" better than pencil lead and doesn't really require that you sand it off. It is a thermo-sensitive ink made up of microcapsules of leuco dye, a color developer, and a color change temperature regulator. It becomes transparent at 140F and stays transparent until it is exposed to a temperature of 14F. Of course a heat gun can be used to make it go transparent; however, the heat generated by sanding can be enough to make any residual ink left behind transparent -- unless the wood you've marked is exposed to freezing temperatures that is.

I've also found that the Pilot FriXion ink refills work in some of the Rollerball pens I commonly use. I usually use the extra fine 0.5mm tips for marking cut lines and stuff on wood projects, but it is also available in fine 0.7mm and bold 1.0mm.

Dave

PS I think their FriXion highlighter would be great for college students that want to highlight their textbooks, yet be able to use a hair dryer to quickly "erase" them when selling their books back to the bookstore.
