frig magnets

a while back i bought a refrigerator magnet kit from psi. Pen Blank Refrigerator Earth Magnet Set: with 1 x 8tpi Chuck at Penn State Industries i have never turned anything like these before. the kit came with a threaded head stock and a 1/2 inch drill bit and 1/2 inch magnets. this may be silly but i have no idea how to mount and turn this these things. do i need to drill and tap a hole in the wood to screw it onto the head stock?

As you mentioned. Drill a hole in the bottom of the wood. Then mount on the chuck. Turn like you would a bottlestopper. Just my $.02.

The PSI chuck came with your kit, so it would be the same way I turned mine, less the need to make your own screw chuck.
