Friend Needs Help

[Oldfolks]

A friend of mine has this piece of burl he turned, for several years, and has never been able to get it identified. The person that gave it to him said it was from Australia, southern part he thinks. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't think they have Manzanita in Australia.... but think I agree with you on your estimate...


Ask how hard the wood was when he turned it... Manzanita is a squosh softer than concrete.

Looks like coolibah which is up around 3900 on janka hardness.

I have never seen manzanita that big- would certainly like to though!!

Well, it seems to me to be York burl.

That was my first thought so I'm sticking with it...!
