Hi,
I had some oak logs milled into 6x6 post and wanted to use them for an arbor. They were cut a few months ago and milled last month. I am going to be pouring footings and attaching the post to concert to wood post brackets. My question is seeing as how the oak is fresh cut should I seal the ends of the post and if so with what? Please see attached picture for project reframe .
Thank you in advance !!

I'd seal them definitely. I know that they use different materials as sealers but I don't know which one would be best. They do make commercial sealers. I think white oak weathers better than red oak.

I'm not 100% sure in this application but when cutting logs for later use like turning I use Anchor Seal Its a wax based product that goes on with a paint brush. I know some other people use Elmer's glue. They both accomplish the same thing slowing the water from escaping the end grain, which causes the cracks.
