I was driving by a house where they cut down a pretty big tree. I stopped and asked the guy what they were going to do with the wood. He said I could have it - if I can fit it in my truck! That log is 5'2" across the middle. WOW is all I could say. (no I was not going to try to get it in the truck, just wanted to show the proportion of size).


On another note, one of the woodworker magazines I get had some pretty interesting articles with tips on gluing and different uses for CA glue.
I thought I'd pass the link along for anyone who is interested.

I bet somebody with a woodmaster could make some darn nice tabletops with it. It looks like white oak from here, and at that size you could get 4 quartersawn boards at least 2.5 feet wide and tapering down from there. There are plenty of woodworkers who like the craftsman style that would pay premium for that. It's a shame how many of those do get chipped up or landfilled. Even burned for firewood would be a better fate.
