'Frankie', my cobbled together machine to make my trim rings and slotted blanks needs a new home. - He is FREE! But you need to come and get him (Medina, Ohio). One other possibility is that I intend to go to the MPG in Chicago this spring and could bring it there. I will also walk anyone through how I used it.

A 1950's Atlas metal lathe. The motor was discarded many years ago. A heavy duty 360 indexing plate is welded to the headstock. There is an obvious learning curve, but the results in my opinion are worth the effort.

(I am in the process of closing my shop. All tools, woodturning materials, will be distributed to family and friends, donated, or sold. I have thoroughly enjoyed my woodturning adventures, but this chapter is now closed. Other than not being able to post new turnings on IAP, I shall remain an active member).

Hopefully not due to poor health and moving on to another hobby? I've enjoyed seeing your work Mark!

If I had the space for Frankie here, I'd take him in a heartbeat! But currently, I don't even have room to set up either of the 2 lathes I already have😅

Sorry to hear you are closing up shop Mark but am glad to hear that you intend to continue to be a contributing member here. I always appreciate reading your insightful and encouraging feedback on everyone's posts.

I am planning to be at MPG in Chicago and am both intrigued and interested in giving Frankie a new home.

Hello Mark. I know we have had our differences and at times stupid things get in the way. But with that said I am sorry to hear of your situation. Your work is always a treat to look at and as far as the segmenting field of our hobby goes you have helped promote it as well as expand it. Moving away from woodworking would devastate me. I do hope that making these moves that your health improves and that you do find some other avenue that continues to give you joy. I am sure my day will come when I have to make the same moves.

It is yours. We'll chat - I have two sons that live in Chicago, so we go there on occasion as well as the MPG.

I have that same Atlas lathe, a real classic that has taught ne a lot. Purrs like a kitten when I am doing it right, barks like pitbull when I make a mistake.
For what it has morphed into - several previous owners (billiard billet makers), it is a great beast! My only hope is for it to continue for whatever it's owner can use it for. It has a bright future!

Wow Mark. Sorry to hear about your health issues. My Doc tells me all the time to wear my respirator, mask and to use my jet room air cleaner, usually all at the same. If I don't, my woodworking days will end soon. I hope you hang around this site to give help and inspiration for all of us to enjoy.

Mark, very sorry to hear that this chapter of your life is ending. Especially because of health. Of all the reasons, health taking away something you love is one of the worst.

I remember you sharing how you made your blanks a couple of years ago. If I was anywhere near Ohio, I'd have bought "Frankie" in a hearbeat! Your blanks are beautiful. I hope some day to give creating blanks like that a try. I guess I'll have to figure out the details with my own gear...but, its goo to know you'll be sticking around! I know I can ask you questions when the time comes!

I hope the next chapter of your life is as rewarding as this one was.
