Several years ago, we went to Virginia to attend our daughter's graduation at Liberty University. While staying in Roanoke, we found Black Dog's place. Bought some odd & ends of wood. This was in one of the bins. It is Piana negra, from the same genus as Bocote. Size should yield a bunch of pen blanks.

What do you recommend? Have: CA, friction polish, lacquer.
The blanks are not segmented or burls, so less need to worry about movement; so I'd go with CA (Glue Boost or your preferred).

For segmented and burls I always gravitated to a more flexible finish - WOP, sometimes Spar Urethane. (I used a slow speed spinning mandrel under a heat lamp and could do repeated applications after 1 hr. So light sanding after 24 hrs, then a few more applications. YES, I was a slow finisher, but with some of my segmenting with 20-30-50+ bits of wood I already many, many hrs invested and a few days to do repeated 10 minute finishes was worth it. I have segmented pens with 50+ pieces after 10 years with no separation. Just my experience).

Mark, thanks for sharing your experiences in finishing. 50+ segments? I take that as a challenge. Finishing, IMHO, is one part of woodworking that is never to be rushed to get quality results.
