I was in the backyard mowing and found some fungus. We found some others a few days ago but, they were much smaller.

Getting the pan out and going to fry them up.

Ok, I'll go ahead and say it. I assume that you are an expert in fungus identification and have experience with these particular shrooms.

For anybody else who can not claim some personal training and hands on experience identifying safe vs poisonous shrooms in your personal area. DON"T EAT MUSHROOMS unless you KNOW they are safe. Large numbers of people end up in ER's all the time from mistakes. Some die. It's serious stuff.

But if you know what you're doing, Enjoy, nothing is as good as fresh fungi

FRY THEM? They would look much better cast and then turned into a pen, bottle stopper or small box. FRIED? WHAT A WASTE!

They are morels. We used to go up north (MI) to get these every year.
They are very expensive to buy.

Poisonous mushrooms are found the the stomachs of dead people.:biggrin::biggrin:

Great find. Yes they are Morel's. Its that time and I still havent been able to get out looking. They are the best fried. I love to dip them in milk and egg, then roll them in cracker crumbs (crushed saltines). Heavenly...... yum!

I found some real odd mushrooms a few weeks ago walking out in my woods, they were a beautiful Burgundy red and shaped like a wine goblet, I didn't think about it at the time, but maybe I'll see if they are still there and take a picture of them. They appeared to be growing in a straight line and were about an inch and a half perhaps two inches tall, we get Smurf villages /Faerie circles a lot, but these looked most unusual.

For those that are not familiar with morels......

Finding these are like finding gold. Personally I think they taste better than the finest cut of steak. Some of your better grocery stores will have them in April and May in very small quantities and they are generally $39.99 a pound.

Great find James. Remember where you got them and if the conditions are right next year you should find more.

+1...what he said!

My family and I eat tons of diferent shrooms and morels are one of the fool proof 5. Never had so much as a tummy ache. You think they are alien looking, goats beard looks like coral and a hedge hog is toothed!

Where do you think they grow the ones in the store? Button mushrooms are the single most comonly cultivated mushroom in the world, they only grow in poo! If you have ever eaten anything from the store with mushrooms in it you have already eaten off a cow patty!

They are morels

They are about $20-$40 Per pound depending on the year. ( How plentiful). They are great usually found on a hill near rotting or spalting wood. They make a great soup, or friedv up just nicely. Either way enjoy you lucky dog.

I never have to worry about picking and eating the wrong fungi. I dont eat mushrooms. I try not to eat food with them in it and if i do I eat around them. I take the steak (IPD Mr)

We were up on the Tellico River a couple weekend back... the wife and her son were photographing wild flowers... I was the chauffeur... we found one (1) morel on the whole trip... not enough to eat, so we left it where it was growing.
