I finally found someone to make a smaller version of the flies pictured on the stamps. I'm not sure if I like the grey background or not but I think it looks better than black or white. The stamp is an actual U.S.Pistage stamp with a mini version of an actual fly on top. Questions and Comments Welcome.

Any chance of using something like a turned-down spalted maple as the basis for the casting instead of the grey? Or isn't there enough meat on the kit for that?

Otherwise, I love the idea.

Thanks for the suggestion Bats. I don't think there's enough room for me anyway to add the wood. I was nervous as it was not wanting to hit the fly while turning. That's why the swell in the middle. I had a cousin that used to build fishing rods and he wrapped a few tubes for me but I wouldn't want to cover the thread with the stamp. I have a few different ones to play with so I have more to experiment with.

Beautiful pen, Kenny !!!

Fantastic idea to combine the postage stamp with fishing flies !!!

As Mark said, I also like the offset fly ..... seems to add a great deal just being offset !!

Thanks Mark and Mal. There's a lot of tube to cover so I thought why stack the fly on the stamp. I was also wanting to put the head of the fly as close to center as I could to keep the swell somewhat symmetrical.

I just love the concept. Not a subject I would try but very original and thought provoking . Only thing I ever caught fishing was several oak trees and a beech on the near and far bank .

Mind you I did manage a few trout once, delicious rolled in oatmeal and grilled.

Beautifully done and the swell does not seem to be excessive. I have been toying with the idea of flies in pens but have had no success. Do you trim the bottom side if the fly before setting it on the tube or just squash it down. For example, I tried a red tag once and found the hackle was way too bushy and the whole fly just sat up so high it was a failure. Do you have anything worthwhile reading that you could point me to or do you just suck it and see.

Roly I'm not sure I understand your last sentence. The busyness can be a problem so it's best to deal with it in the setup. I trim the bottom as much as possible and I try to twist the feathers to one side to help with the contour of the tube. When I actually glue the fly to the tube I press it as snug as I can to the tube. When that's dry I'll spot glue the feathers to the tube so they look streamline and not put of place. I hope this helps and feel free to reach out if you have more questions.
