Was wondering if anyone has made a pen and used flocking material as a finish? The wood would have to be cheap wood since it would be covered with the flocking. Was thinking about it today. I'm refinishing a gun case and going to use flocking material to cover the insert due to the cutout for the gun. Don't want wrinkles or seams showing in the finished product. I'm doing it for a friend so I want it to look as good as possible. Anyway, I just thought that I might try making a pen out of some cheap not that great of wood and try the flocking. Would be different and give it a velvet feel. Might try one half with flocking and the other half a color coordinated nice wood. Will see. I'll post pics once I get it done.

Flocking as you know requires the paint to adhere the material and it needs to be applied very liberally. You will have flaking off. The material in my opinion would become dingy looking from the oils in your hands and the abuse a pen takes could flake off the material.

But with that said I sure look forward to seeing your results. Always open for new ideas. Good luck.

try it on a regular wooden pencil first to see how it would be applied and how it may wear on a day to day process ....

I have thought about trying it. But I don't think it will hold up to wear and tear.

I have really considered doing it with some bowls, hollow forms and turned boxes. Yet, I've not done it.
