I have been given the honor to make a pen for a friend's son who is the Marines stationed in Iraq. He had to ditch his last pen because it was too shiny and could reflect light compromising the unit's positioning. I plan to use a dark metal kit and something like Blackwood for the pen. All I have ever done is strive to have the highest gloss finish possible, never the opposite. I would appreciate any suggestions that y'all experts could offer.
Thanks, Dave:)

I've never used it on a pen, but some companies (Testors is one) market a laquer called Dullcoat. I've used it on plastic models and heard of it being used on miniture figures for gaming. It is supposed to be pretty durable if several coats are applied. You cab find it in hobby shops, it might be worth a test.

Try the psi black enamel slimline and the CSUSA tactile. The tactile has a rubbery feel. I sold six to a marine that needed teh dull finish as well. I used ebony with a friction polish and the black enamel. The ebony is dark it did not reflect light at all. He had to have them fit in the pocket of his sleeve.
