First try at dying woods

This is my first attempt using wood dyes. The top pen is curly maple double dyed blue and orange (although you can't really see the orange). The second is a piece of birdseye maple dyed with green artisan dye.

Edit: Figured out how to properly size the picture. Thanks for looking.

Hi,

Nice work on the dyes. I have tried the double dyes on figured woods, I dye the dark one first, then sand abit to remove some of the dye, then apply the lighter colour...You did a great job on them both!

Good looking Fred, your right, the blue one looks washed out in the photo, but the green one looks good the way it took the dye in certain parts. Nice job.

Thanks guys. The blue dye is Behlen's solar-lux in sea blue. They carry it at Woodcraft. I turned the blanks down to size sanded through 400 and then used my stabilizing pump to suck the dye into the wood before sanding and finishing. The green dye is green artisan dye from Craft Supplies. I sanded down to 400 then wiped the dye on before more sanding and finishing.
