First tool off lathe

This is the first real product off the metal lathe.

It's a milling pilot shaft for a Sierra style kit. I still need to file a flat for the cutterhead set screw, but I don't have a file...yet.

Photo is compliments of my wife. I just can't photograph anything.

Looks like you're well on your way. One thing I've done to make flats is to use an end mill in the headstock chuck and mount the piece in the tool holder. Its a poor mans mill, but for a job like this, its one way to make a flat. It's hard to believe how many useful tools and mandrels you can make with these lathes. Enjoy!!
