First time making something using my 4 jaw chuck. I've only turned pens up until this point.

So I made a pen holder haha.

Lathe thought process:

Weee! I have a lathe! Let's make stuff!
Hmmmm... I can't hold onto this part right....
Weeee! I have a chuck! Let's make stuff!
Hmmmm... It'd work better if....
Weeee! I have a new set of Jaws! Let's make stuff!
Hmmm... Now I need a jam chuck...
Weeee! Let's make stuff!
Hmmmm.... Now how do I finish this bowl bottom again?
Weeee!..... etc etc etc

Now that you have a chuck, random useless lumps of wood suddenly become potential glue blocks, jam chucks, and other fixtures. :)

Thanks, you're not far from me actually haha.

Oh wow no kidding. How are you managing to get any shop time in with this heat? I haven't made anything for about a month.

I worked outside in Havasu (which is on average about 5-10 degrees hotter than Phoenix) for 13 years. So the heat doesn't really bother me honestly.

Also my wife just bought me a mobile AC unit two weeks ago, that I just have blow at my back when in the garage.

I see. I figured a portable AC would never cool off my garage but I was looking at it the wrong way. All I need is for it to keep me cool, not the garage. Thanks for the insight.
