I have been a woodturner for only a few months now. I have about 15 lathe tools and only two are the carbide tip kind. The others are all HSS. I found myself in the dilemma of having to sharpen these tools as I could tell they were getting dull.
I have NEVER hand sharpened anything in my 40 years of life except fishing hooks and my fillet knife. I was a little worried about hand sharpening my lathe tools for fear of ruining the angle of the grind.
This past weekend I broke down and bought a $7 diamond stone at my local Menards and proceeded to sharpen all my tools.
I tested them out and they all cut like new!!
Totally happy with results and a little proud of myself.
I had been eyeing up getting a benchtop grinder and making a sharpening jig but I think I can fore go that now!
