First segmented blank

Finally got a roundtuit. Cut 1/4 on the bandsaw; maple (old cutting board) and, I believe cocobolo. Epoxy and sat overnight in a jig I made. Turned good but the difference in the hardness was interesting. The maple sits a bit proud of the other. Might make a "guy" pen with the ripples and the pen size which is the Mesa kit. Eight coats of thin CA and went through the MM; followed with Hutt plastic polish.

Thanks to all. Note the top piece is thin. One person said he started with the middle and worked the math to figure how it came out with even segments.

Those measurement things come with time and you figure out how to make concentric. As far as the dips and valleys, that is your pressure you put on tool as you are turning. A lighter touch is key and a sharp tool. Even if you sand that will be a result showing up too because of the hardness of 2 materials. Welcome to world of segmenting. The sky is the limit.

Thanks, guys. I kind of like the "grooved" effect. I tend to fall into the plain vanilla with no cherry on top. Have a couple of pens on display that might warrant a bit of blank modification.
