To make the white look white, you'll need to fool the camera. Think over exposure.... You can do this with software, or right at the source. The source needs to have the EV value bumped to +1.6(or higher).
It will also help to photo white objects on a darker background.
Tip: Increase the DOF or move the camera back away from the subject to increase the 'in focus' of the object. You can always crop the photo to get rid of 'unwanted stuff in the background' too.
The pens look pretty good, just tell the one-that-must-be-obeyed she can't keep giving them away, it'll take money out of the vacation fund to replace them:wink:
