Just finished my first pen. Gold Apprentice Slimline. The first blank i made blew out mostly because I didn't wait for the epoxy on the tube to cure. The blank is segmented cedar, pine, and juniper. Sanded to 400, Gluboost blue, then orange (2coats each), 0000 steel wool, then all micromesh (dry).
I dont know what to do with pen#2.

Very impressive for a first pen, to say the least!

If pen #2 is functional, but not pretty, may I suggest donating it to your local public library? That's what I do with my "functional failures." Libraries always need pens.

Fine pen indeed!
Tip: the edges of the blank that come to the center band, round them over ever so slightly when you sand the finish and you'll be amazed at how much that will make the sharp corner to the hardware disappear and it doesnt take all that much fussing to do.

Thanks for sharing. Trying (and succeeding at) segmenting on your first pen shows your determination to excel at this addictive craft. Well done!
