First "non-pen" turning... Now stop that!

I turned this bottle stopper from a piece of walnut provided at the recent Houston area IAP meeting. Drilled and mounted a 3/8-16 brass bushing and turned on a cut-off carriage bolt mounted in my Jacobs chuck. Thanks to Steve Willis for that tip/suggestion...

Not sure that I like turning walnut. Seems to have lots of catches and skips... Oh... that may be me!

A nice first step outside of pen turning. I find that exploring various aspects of turning enhances all aspects, including pen turning.

Very nice. Be sure to ware protective mask when turning walnut. It's hard on the lungs.

Two things

First off nice job! How does it feel to have the freedom of turning without bushing? Sorta fun to see what you create. Take it a step further and try to turn real life forms. (eggs, mushrooms, spheres flowers, goblets, bottles) It's great practice and fun!

Second. I wager this walunt was a x-cut piece and you were turning against endgrain. Of all the wood I turn, wanlnut is one of my favorite for it's workability.
