I decided to make a knife using an old circular saw blade. I heat treated it with a Mapp torch and fire bricks. Not a work of art but it's sharp enough to shave hair off my arm.

Nice idea !! . Well done !!

That's something I would like to try also. . What size is the circ saw blade; and, how do you cut it ?

It was a 10" blade. I have an old band saw that I put a metal cutting blade on and used that. I tried cutting with an angle grinder but hat was taking too long so I tried the bandsaw. I did use he angle grinder to do the rough shape on the blade.

Very nice work, wish my first was half as nice!

Be careful with saw blades with carbide teeth, the base blade isn't always good for blade steel. The ones with teeth ground directly on the blade have to be made of hardenable steel. Also, Vegetable oil makes for better quenching oil, thicker oils are slower to pull the heat out of the steel reducing the chance of getting a hard blade.

Very nicely done.... don't think I'll ever try to make a knife though... if I don't burn myself doing the heat treatment, I'd probably cut my fingers off sharpening.... as careful as I try to be, some tools and I just don't seem to get along... they will find a way to bite me. :D
