I did my fist hybrid casting last week and turned a pen from the results. The blue is a bit too clear but I'm liking it so far!

That looks very nice! I think the only thing I would have done would be paint the tube black or something. Nice job on the blanks.

I like the blank - it's interesting with the light colored wood, which doesn't seem so light colored next to the white resin.

Very very nice. I do agree with both you and Bobby on back painting the blank. But its an extremely impressive cast. Well done.

To be honest, the first one I did was back painted. Which was looking good until I slipped with the skew and shredded the poor thing. Unfortunately I didn't have time to back paint the blank again. The new owner of the pen really likes the shine of the tube inside so I wasn't going to argue with him on it.
BTW, the buckeye burl is from BenPen. I bought a box of his scraps to cast with.
Thank you all for your kind words. I am hoping to improve on my craft.

I sent the link to my brother and his response was "uh-huh...who really did that pen?" I love my brother....I really do....
