Allan,

Not all kaleidoscope kits are created equal.

Buy one or two of each of the ones you are considering. They all go together differently, I have distinct preferences, but YMMV.

TRY before you buy.

Allan,

Another consideration: IF you decide to make kaleidoscopes, MANY buyers will look at your "Optics" to determine if it is well-made. Although the kits include mirrors, usually front-surface, they offer the additional "feature" of being PRE-SCRATCHED!!! So, your prospective customer will consider your work inferior.

These scopes are VERY small, the mirrors are very small. Buy a sheet of good front-surface mirror and replace all the crap that comes with the kit. YOU will enjoy a much better reputation.

FWIW!!
