After 45 years of working, today is my first day of retirement.

My first job was part-time when I was 15 years old, working as a bellhop for the long-gone Prince Charles Motor Inn in Penticton, BC., where I earned $.75 per hour plus tips.

For the past 19 years, I've worked for a great little company in the 'fire weather' business, called Forest Technology Systems. I've traveled extensively throughout north america, although mostly in the eastern US.

Thanks to an incredibly generous retirement travel voucher from FTS, my considerably better half and I will be taking at least two vacations to somewhere warm, later this winter or next spring.

I guess I'll have no excuse for being late with my fall PITH pen....!

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations on the retirement. did the same thing myself in February after 50 years working. First worked officially at 11 years old in 1960 for $0.50 per hour. You wont believe the feeling after the initial shock wears off. Its great. Broke all the time, (fixed income now) but you dont care cause no getting up to go to work. Busying than before though because now the wife's the boss.

Again, good luck and CONGRATULATIONS.

Congratulations, my day comes end of NOV or end of DEC this year. The project I am working on ends my job, but I think I am ready. My Dad said after he retired, "when did I have time to go to work?"

Again, congratulations and enjoy life.

Congratulations on your retirement. I hope to follow in your footsteps in a couple years!

Congrats. September marks the start of my fourth month of retirement. The first month and a half or so seemed more like a long vacation. Didn't really sink in till this past month. Only problem I've had is the 100+ temps we've been having the past two months. Haven't been able to do much of anything outside I'd planned on, but I did get a lot of shop time in.:biggrin::biggrin:

Congratulation...............I retired 6 years ago and never looked back. However you will definitely find that retirement is a full time job. I started working in 1957 for $0.22/hour thinning peach trees. Each year I hate Winter more and more. Think seriously about some time in the Caribbean during the Winter months. It can't be any better!!!!!............

Steve,

Going on for 16 yrs retirement now its exhilerating. I do remember increased awareness on behalf of my dearly beloved a sort of armed truce developed so one day I said what are you doing today sensed bristling reply why in a determined voice well said I I am going to the local supermarket around 10 am would you like to come.

Now SWMBO does not drive, is the most wonderful person so I was then able to explain to her how I understood her losing feeling of her independance and would try to give her space to continue to follow her passions as I would like to pursue mine. Problem solved forever.

I do miss the people at work not the having to justify every minute of work time as it has developed these days.

Wish you well in all things.

Kind regards Peter.

Congrats

My wife and I worked out a perfect solution to me being around all the time. She does whatever she wants, goes where she wants, spends what she wants. I do the same but "go" considerably less. When we want to do the same thing (mostly Church, Church functions and swimming) we go together. Works Great.

Congrats!!! Good for you!! 45 years ago your were a bellhop now 45 years later you are going to be a bellhop for the misses for 2 weeks....

Enjoy your vacation and your retirement...we'll expect to see a lot of pen photos in a couple weeks...

Many thanks for all your kind comments...

Jimmy

Jimmy, I knew that someone would beat my $.75 wage back in '65. But I had to walk to work back then, about a mile -- even in winter -- uphill -- both ways...!

"Congratulations upon retirement. I hope it works better for you, than it has for me."
Ken Ferrell

Ken, It's already not working well. I've got to learn how to sit on my a** a bit more, I guess. Two boys getting married this fall and 3 hunting trips planned, I'll need to go back to work in Dec. to get some rest...

"Congrats Steve. Hey are you a member of the Island Woodturners Guild???"
Lin.

Lin, I'm not, but was talking to a guy who works at Lee Valley a couple of months ago who's in it. I'm going to go out and meet them, now that I have a bit more time...

Hey Moke, LOL at this... I'm making less money now performing my bellhop duties then back in '65 but the tips are better....!

Thanks again all.... I really will try to contribute a bit more, now that I allegedly have the time...

Welcome to the world of retirement. Now you will find out what busy is. Nice busy though, it is your choice of what, when and how to do something if you want. Enjoy. It has been 8 busy years for me, best job I ever had.

Congratulations. Just as many have said, you'll be very busy. After six years I am still waiting to for a break to settle down. Now we are in the middle of remodeling a home we just purchase from FHLMC. This will be our last.
