We recently dropped a black locust tree in our yard. It's good burnable lumber, so I was splitting and stacking it for next winter. One of the logs was all "wavy" inside. I stacked it with the rest, but then pulled it out of the pile a few days later. I band sawed it and got three 3 small blanks where the curly part was. I let it dry in my shop and turned a piece last night.

So my question is, Is this "curly" black locust? Or "figured" black locust?

You can call it whatever you want! It is unlikely anyone will know that difference. Or just call it a beautiful locust pen. Great save from the fire pit.

Outstanding color and figuring. Nice find for the wood, and excellent execution on the pen.
Any problems milling or turning the Locust? I've heard that it can be difficult to work with.
