Well, obviously depends on the material. If you're doing PR or Corian then nothing. If you're turning your nose at the idea of using that like I used to, you may want to check into it.

If it's wood, I prefer to go with CA whenever possible. A lot of time they'll have a lot of beading on them and it's hard to get the glue in there without gumming up the details but I try using it if I can. If not, I'll go with a Deft spray lacquer. Just don't mount them on the kit, pound a bunch of headless nails into a board, stick them on the nails and give them multiple coats. I've found it's not quite as even a finish as CA but it works well enough. Some people have had a glass finish using spray, I may just not know what the heck I'm doing.

I too find the Deft spray lacquer easier to use than CA on wood. I will usually give mine several coats over several days, then once cures, I'll buff it out with white diamond.

My experience with wood bottle stoppers is that three applications of sanding sealer (Zinsser's) followed by several (six to ten) applications of wipe-on polyurethane (I use Minwax) produces a very nice, hard finish.

Depends.

On most of mine I use CA but some customers don't like the high gloss finish. One place I sell them at lists my stoppers as having a beeswax finish, so as not to deter the local organic buyers.

The BLO/beeswax looks good on display but wears off pretty fast.

Lacquer is a pain if you are not willing to wait for curing and then buffing them. For a hard finish in a hurry nothing beats CA.

I use Deft spray lacquer for a gloss finish and I use dowels to hold the stoppers so that I can rotate them to get and even finish. Have a board drilled with holes to hold the dowel with stopper while drying. Do at least 4 coats, allowing to dry between coats
