Hi guys,
Quick question.. When I try to do a BLO/CA finish on padauk i often find i get white residue (i think the sanded CA) in the grains of the wood...

here's what i do...

sand 150, 220, 320, 400
apply BLO
apply 2-3 coats of thin CA
apply 3-4 coats of medium CA
(both of the above.. i do use some accelerator every other coat)

after the CA, I hit it with a quick wet sand at 600
then MM 800-12000, when sanding between grains i stop and go with the grain..
Then Ren Wax

What im finding is white in the grain lines of the wood, it looks like dried CA dust. and I've tried resanding down to wood, and repeating above... and nothing works

any tips?

try wiping down the blank after sanding with acetone to remove the dust, also depending on the wood you may want to go ultra light or completely omit the BLO.

excellent.. i'll try it next time I turn one. My wife happens to work at a hair salon, and we have acetone readily available.
