my method
Micromesh through all grits.
use plastic polishing compound such as novus, Mcquires Plast-x, brasso, ect.

Some people buff after this but I just got my buffing system and have not done any resin since then.
Optional - you can apply RenWax to help repel finger print ( I have not decided if I really think this helps yet)

I sand thru all the grits, polish with Novus plastic compound, and then a coat of Trade Secret for Wood. Super slick finish and I haven't noticed a problem with fingerprints. That's JUST the way I do it.

Wet sanding through 2000 grit, then finishing up with either Novus or a automotive polishing compound. When wet sanding, I put an old towel over the lathe bed to avoid too much water on them. Later I rub dry and put a coat of Ren wax on the ways - that is the best use for Ren wax.
Others, I have heard, are dry sanding at low speed, never worked for me, though.
