I haven't turned an acrylic pen in a while, and I am having a complete brain fart.

1) Is the HUT acrylic polish the only thing needed to finish one?

2) If I segment wood + acrylic, what kind of finish do people use in that case? (I usually do a BLO + CA finish on wood)

Thanks for you help. I have been racking my brain for 2 days and can't remember what I have done.

When I do acrylic I use the scew on the last step to scrape across the flat surface, then use a 600 grit sandpaper to get rid of any tool marks. After that just micro sand with the wet pads to 12000 and use either a buffer or the plastic polish.

If you segment Acrylic with woods...I've found it's best to use CA for the finish. Then again, everyone has a system that works for them.

Best wishes

Does it make any sense to polish the acrylic after a "sealing" coat of CA before applying all my CA layers? Or does sanding get it smooth enough?

I guess I am concerned what the acrylic might look like if it is not glossy under multiple coats of CA. Will it look flat or dull?

I don't put CA on top of acrylic-I wasn't aware you needed to. What are the advantage of putting a CA finish on acrylic?

In my experience, THE ONLY reason to apply CA to Acrylic is with "worthless wood", "mutts" or blanks made with Alumalite. Alumalite doesn't produce the shine of PR and IMHO, CA is required.

With PR blanks, IMHO, CA is more of a hinderance than help.

No, do not polish. there isn't any reason to and it can cause the CA to lift or not stick at all. Sand to 400 grit and apply the CA finish. When you sand and finish the CA it will shine up.
