Finish still tacky

I turned an ice cream scoop using BLO and a polyurethane spray finish. After applying the BLO, I waited 24 hours before spraying the poly. I applied the poly in light misting coats (nothing heavy). It's now been 3 days and the finish is still tacky. Any suggestions on what I can use to remove the finish and start all over. I am thinking the BLO was not totally cured (although it felt like it was).

PS: it was a hardwood (reddish in color) but I neglected write down the name before I turned off the tag) . It was not an oily wood like cocobolo.

Charlie -- Lots of flat work done with done with oil/varnish/thinner built "Danish Oil" finish suggests you either need to wait longer, or your mix-on-the-wood did not get wiped down well.

I suggest you take some "old fashioned" mineral spirits and wipe it down, then let it sit for several days. It will likely cure out.

It takes many days for drying oils to polymerize and feeling "not sticky" is as you have experience, probably not the best measure. Sniffing the surface for odor (without a cold or sinusitis) can be a guide.

Old fashioned is the mineral spirits that is not mixed with an emulsifier and water -- the so called "green versions".
