I bought a 1954 Chevy truck in 1985...pulled the straight 6, trans and rear end out and replaced with a 305 V8 , 700R auto trans and an updated rear end.
I drove it for many many miles daily. Finally sold it after it just sat in the garage after I bought a 2005 Ford F350 superduty diesel.
If I had to do things over again I would leave the vehicle stock - as trucks with V8's are plentiful....you rarely see a stock truck now a days.
