Since building my workshop I've been working on my very first pen using the new lathe to get to grips with the machine. No anodising or plating this time around as I'm still building the chemical area of my shop, but getting there!

I have always wanted to make some cases but found it difficult with such a small lathe before, so i figured why not this time!

This one will sit proudly in my collection, and it's been a learning curve. A couple of unexpected challenges popped up so I may tackle the case a little differently next time

On the lid, a Kraken awaits, with his tentacles engulfing a ship on the body.

The case features a pirates map

As always, thanks for looking  Good to be back!!

You should have more 'calamity' breaks!!! I think that surpasses most of your previous stuff.....
Well done and welcome back!!

Is there a spring or rod in the case 'cap' that keeps the pen in place? If not, then what stops the pen from becoming dislodged inside the case?

BTW, I showed my wife and she reckons it's too cool..

*VERY* WELL DONE !!!! Somebody please tell jttheclockman about this " WOW ! " pen and case !

The carriage is the exact length of the tube so it physically cannot become dislodged while screwed shut. im lining each end of the carriage with felt which will grip it snugly too. I was torn between drilling the carriage to the same dimension of the pen.. and risking scratching the pen while it slides in and out, or oversizing it and lining it with felt. I opted for the latter.

I've made a jig to speed up making the end pieces... but going forward I'm going to have to build a custom etching system to handle these... they create too much heat given the larger surface area. was a struggle controlling it!

Very, very, very ,very cool!!!

As an artist, you know your flaws, but all looks well from this side of the pond!

Have FUN!

Really nice Brad. Looks like you're getting along quite well with your new stuff

If you would have entered these into the Summer Extravaganza contest you probably could have won both the Pen Stand contest and the kitless contest!

Not yet Mike ;)
