I clean all wood with DNA (Denatured Alcohol) before applying a CA finish.

I have been applying Minwax clear stain as first coat, friction finished, then at least 3 coats of Minwax Wipe on Poly. Piece on left is same Cedar wood as for sale. The other is Black Ash Burl
