Beautiful figured wood. I have heard to wipe the wood with alcohol to cut the oil before applying a finish as CA. Anyone have this experience?

I have been applying Minwax clear stain as first coat, friction finished, then at least 3 coats of Minwax Wipe on Poly. Piece on left is same Cedar wood as for sale. The other is Black Ash Burl IMG_5401.jpeg
