I'm giving a go at casting soon. I just ordered a gallon of Silmar41 and now need to find pigments. I may try Pearl-ex later, but I'm trying to prevent spending too much getting started...for now.

What colors do you like to use from Coastal Scents? What moves better? I'll probably buy 6-10 colors.

To start, maybe have a shot at a sample pack of PE. As you gain experience, PE gets expensive. CS is a great value for the price. It doesn't seem to have the Bang! that PE does. I picked up CS in the colors that I had PE in and mixed them. No complaints! A warning though...YMMV, IMHO, IIRC and so on...CS's website seems to crash whenever there is a sale, again...YMMV & IIRC, so on and so on.

I like Cerulean blue, but I don't know if it's still available. I also like Cerise Flambe & metallic red raisin for red. Green is kind of hard. Coastal doesn't have a true green. The closest they come I think is majestic green. I use black mica rather than the black dye, but I use white dye much more often than pearl white. The dyes you can buy where you buy the resin.

One thing you'll discover, is that the different colors set at different times. Black & antique silver set fast. Most greens and blues take longer. The exception seems to be cerulean blue. And some colors, like antique silver, need to be mixed with other colors to get the effect you want. For example, I use white pearl with a touch of antique silver to get a bright silver. Antique silver is almost battleship grey but with a pearl effect.

Most of the golds & browns work well, so pick some that you like & go from there.

And purple seems to sell well, but they discontinued chameleon violet, and I don't know what they sell that would replace it.

Frankly, it seems that the more I go to Coastal, the more colors they have dropped. At least colors that I use.

Do not buy the plain it is the only one that does not work. My favorite are Australian amber and black star red combination. Purple sell the best, pick which you like. You need black and white always.

make sure you get some Ultra Silk.
with that and a few liquid dyes, you can pretty much make any
pearl color you want. I think it is the base for most of their other
powders.
Try out a couple of the Blackstars. Those are an interesting look for
a black blank. Gives a colored shimmer in the light, even though the
blank remains black.
