isn't American Holly sometimes used as a substitute for Ivory?

Yes, I've heard holly called a substitute for ivory. I haven't ever had any real ivory, but I do like the looks of the holly I've had.

The centerband is actual elephant ivory. The piano keys are American holly (and Nigerian ebony). This will give you an idea of a possible substitute.

Corian. They have a multitude of shades of off-white.
