Partially stained maple with a hard maple/padauk centerband.

To fade the effect towards the top I used an old toothbrush to "flick" the stain on. Gloves were helpful. ; )

I like the effect in the top half a lot, but wonder if it being a little darker about the same amount at the nib end would add to the overall look.

I am wondering if staining the whole pen and then lightly sanding one end with 400-600 SP sliding towards the middle would give a similar or slightly different look.

In all my time here, I don't remember one with a stain gradation like this. Great idea.
