I have a Trend Air Shield Pro that I like a lot and use pretty much constantly in my shop. However, when I go out with my woodturning club to do demos, the size of the Trend and the noise the fan makes (which doesn't bother me) interferes with contact with visitors. So I've been using a cheap face shield. I want to take a step up. I'm considering the Bubble Visor from Craft Supplies or the Bionic Face Shield from Woodcraft (or elsewhere?) Any recommendations? Any thoughts on whether one is more scratch resistant or easier to clean than the other? Russ

Thanks, all! You convinced me. Found the Bionic on Amazon for $25.34 w/free shipping(Prime). Almost ordered a replacement shield for $6.00+ but decided to hold off to see how long it takes me to crap this one up. Looks like this will be a good choice, although I'll continue, mostly, to use my Trend at home. Russ

I've used a Bionic Face Shield for well over two years now and never had an issue with it! I have to admit though, after viewing several videos where turners have had issues of wood splitting off while turning and hitting their shields, I'm beginning to have second thoughts on ANY available shield, including the Bionic, Trend, etc. and maybe looking into a heavier and more protective shield, if there is any... I have to admit, I'm a 'safety nut' and hate being injured when I can avoid it... Any ideas out there on how to better protect ourselves?

There was a nice article on faceshields in the April 2013 issue of American Woodturner (Journal of AAW). Make sure whatever one you get is Z87+ rated for high impact. The Bionic, which I have, is rated such, but has thinner polycarbinate than some of the ones with 2mm thick shields. I find the Bionic to be comfortable and light to wear. Sometimes I forget I have it on.
