exotics razor kit question

Would someone please share some measurements with me?

Razor kit from exotics...

Tube OD and length of razor. Average outer diameter of finished razor.

Tube OD and length and average OD of finished stand.

Tube OD and length and average length and OD of finished brush.

Razor:
Tube length: 2.565"
Diameter (OD) .267 (standard "7mm tube", I beilieve)
"Knob" height: .575 not including the stem that goes into the tube--same on both ends.

The stands and brushes are still in the packages from the AAW (temporarily disorganized). Will look for them later and try to give you those dimensions.

To be clear, we are handling the Berea sets, so this information is not specific to Exotics--

Far as I know, there is no "spec" to how they should be turned--so OD will be completely controlled by the turner.

The OD of the "knobs" is .65"--the razor I turned for jollies ranges from .6 to .78---but that was my preference, no real pattern was present.

Ok..I figured the razor would go beyond half inch when spun..my disposable vibrating mach 3 razors are larger than 1/2 inch OD. Makes shaving more comfy. So this would mean really that any of the normal scrolled pen blanks you sell would work on a razor.

Not sure what knob height means.

I do hope to get the blank size required for a stand as soon as I can.

I'm guessing a brush would be about 1-1.25 OD, similar to a bottle stopper. Just a guess...I know a 1.25 bottle stopper is plenty fat for my hands...I kinda like a finished size of about 1 and 1/8 OD for stubby items like that. Sound good?

Brushes vary - I bought some knots the other day and was given the choice of 20mm, 22mm and 27mm. That would mean an OD of around 1 and 1/8 as you say, for 20 and 22mm. The 27mm would probably be around 1.5

The knobs Ed refers to are the hardware on each end.

Took me a minute..now think I hear you...when you say knot you mean the hairy end of the brush. If you buy a kit do you get a choice as to what knot size you get or does it come with all three? I have a couple blanks I think would be perfect for a shaving brush, but they are only 1 3/8 square give or take a 1/16 or so, and by the time they are drilled and spun round they couldn't be larger than 1.25" diameter I'm sure, possibly even end up a hair less than that. hmmm.

I think the knots available are 20mm. The larger sizes I found in China.

Most are just a grouping of hair, there is no kit. Some will have a brass ferrule into which the knot is seated. These are few and far between.

Be careful of the type of hair though - badger is the better of those available, silver tipped badger considered to be premium grade. You will also find horse hair, boar hair and a host of others. I recently read a story of knots sold out of China claiming to be silver tipped when in fact they were boar hair dyed to imitate badger.

Anthony at the Golden Nib has several choices on Badger Knots, I bought a few from him a while back, the hair was set into something like epoxy or polyester. But for what it's worth, I've had a hard time selling the sets. I sold two razors, but couldn't convert the sale on the brushes.

The "going size" is 20-22mm.

I have also looked at buying knots in China. (BTW, killing badgers is illegal in Europe, I am told, so China leads the world in badger brushes) They can be gotten in up to 30mm. But, it seems there is more value to the type of hair, rather than the size of the knot.
