I tend to save all the scraps and cut offs from my different projects, thinking thats good for segmenting or inlay or blanks etc. etc. However.. every once in a while I have to stop and look around at the amount of scraps I have collected. Yesterday I started looking around and I have buckets and bins and boxes of pieces all over the place. I burned more than 8 wheel barrows full of scrap pieces. Mostly cherry and walnut. I emptied the bin in the picture twice and what you see is part of what im saving. Thats doesnt include the boards. I hate to do it, it really hurts my feelings.:frown: but there is so much of it and it isnt cost effective to sell and ship it. And I barely made a dent. Mike

IF you can find a local high school or vocational school THAT STILL TEACHES SHOP, they would likely be happy to get the free wood. That beats sending it up in smoke!
 
take it to your next IAP chapter meeting and give it to all the other people at the meeting!!
 
Mike, sometimes when the LOML walks thru the carport and sees all the wood sitting around, he mumbles something about me being a woodwhore, :rolleyes::biggrin:

My wife walked into the bedroom and caught me looking at this month's centerfold of "Bird's Eye Maple Revealed":biggrin::biggrin:
 
Just a thought. Get some large flat rate boxes from USPS fill them and offer to the new turners for a dollor or two over postage. Gets rid of the scrap and helps the new members. Maybe later they can pass their extras on. It also feels good to do a good thing.

If you are into trying band saw boxes those pieces or some of them could be glued together to make some interesting patterns.
 
I have done that with some of my walnut, even gave away blanks to those who couldnt swing the postage, but most of this stuff was odd shaped and Im not sure it would be cheap enough even at a $1.00 over shipping. Walnut and cherry are fairly cheap locally. If you figure $5.95 for a small flat rate box of scraps you can buya board foot of cherrry or walnut for that. Some of the stuff I burned were rough edged, thin strips etc. Stuff you could sit down and get useable pieces out of if you worked at it. I do have several hundred pieces of 7/16 thick by 1-3/8 wide by 2-1/2 long pieces of walnut if anyone wants some for the cost of shipping and paypal fees.

edit note the pieces are 7/16 x 1-3/8 inches by 2 1/2 inches.

The problem was the sheer amount of the material I have, had, still have. I have boards everywhere in boxes and tubs and 5 gallon buckets.
