This is my first worthless wood cast. Even though I had the applicators to paint the inside of the blank, I forgot and spray painted the brass itself. I think the epoxy shows up through the alumilite slow.

When I am concerned about translucency of a blank I paint the inside of the hole drilled in the blank. I will also color the tube with a sharpie (black or color) and sometimes I even add a drop of paint to the epoxy to color it. The only one of these things that hides the epoxy itself is the painting the inside of the hole drilled in the blank. As @Woodchipper so aptly noted, I learned this the hard way.

seeing your epoxy and tube is really a bummer, I'd say we've all been there. Some of us (me) continue to come back for a visit occasionally too.

The wood on your blank is very pretty though if that helps any.
