This was my first major woodworking project, and really catapulted me into the hobby about a year ago. I based the design on a project featured in Woodsmith No. 169:

It was a great learning experience, and certainly paved the way for more projects to come. A few "firsts" encountered during the project:

- pocket hole joinery
- splined miter joinery
- hardwood edging on shelves
- gluing up a large panel
- inset doors
- 35mm cup hinges
- finishing with Danish Oil / paste wax

Thanks! I haven't had any problems with heat buildup. I have oval slots cut out in the rear plywood panel to help the air circulation.

I suppose that now that I'm a woodturner, I should replace the store-bought knobs with a turned set. :redface:

Haha... the pictures are from my previous apartment, where the basement was my "man-cave" and contained all of my hobbies: woodworking, fish, and music. In the house we bought last summer, I now have a dedicated wood shop. :biggrin:

Man thats an awesome cabinet. I'm a cabinet maker by trade and love this kind of work. Unfortunately, today we were put on a 3 day week because of the downturn in the economy.

I may just have to do something similar - our cheap 11 year old Wal Mart entertainment center has about completed its life cycle
