Never used them but have had great results with IAP member Bigj51 who owns his own engraving business. He's done several for me and a few when I was in a time crunch with never a problem. Some were names and others were from a logo I sent him.

I have never used them but if I were going to ( I have a local guy that does mine) I would send them a couple of "junk" pens to see how their work comes out before I sent a good pen to them. I am like you I would be scared and go slow - that is what I did with my local guy - few scraps, various materials - acrylics, trustone wood to see how it came out - he learned for me on some of my scraps - now he does a nice job!

I created a small monogram and sent Woodturnigz a digital copy. They engraved it on the cap of my pen, below the clip, just where I wanted it. The cap is black and I had them fill the engraving with silver. Really did a nice job!

John,

For what it's worth, I've used them in the past. Their graphic artist, Kim, did a wonderful job on everything that I needed, to include a very intricate logo that went on a large number of pens for a client. She also was able to take care of a design/engraving for me on a one-of-a-kind box that had no room for error. It was perfectly executed. They remain my go to folks for laser work.

I don't ave any photos of the work they do, all was shipped before I got pictures, but as was stated, Kim is superb. I live a mile from them and they do all my engraving and have for several years. I do my own fill work using acrylic artists paint, the kind in a tube. If I have any money I go there to spend it.....if I have any left I buy food.

My experience with Woodturningz has been great. My customer was unhappy with the back fill on 9 out of 75 pens engraved and back filled by Woodturningz. Now in all fairness the logo that was engraved and back filled was difficult because three ellipses joined together at the top of the logo. They are redoing those 9 at no charge.

I have had other problematic (is that really a word) engraving orders and they have handled them without a problem.

I'll try to send you a better photo of their work tomorrow.

Well the pens in question are the wedding pens I talked about a couple weeks ago. I need to send them off tomorrow to get back in time. They do not have a large selection of fonts so I will probably go with the one that is written out. I want the pens engraved and also a box with a saying of my choice. The material is MOP truestone on a Majestic JR. Kit.

Anyone here see any problems with that choice??? I will have them infill with gold because I do not have the material to do this. Will I have to top coat the infill??? I do not have room for error except that I will be making cap blanks for both pens and have in stock if anything goes wrong. I will send them a sample cap if they need to do trial but I hope they have done truestone before.

I asked a few weeks ago for some engraver names that have done this kind of work and got one or two. I talked to Ken and he would have done it but is at the symposium the next week. He is one guy I would trust from the work I have seen here. Oh well nothing more to do than hope for the best. Thanks all.

I recently had IAP member Stan Cook (member name mrcook4570), who runs the Engraving Cave, laser engrave a couple of TruStone pens for my client. They came out great. He colorfilled them in gold, which looks superb with the gold matrix in the TruStone. He has lots of fonts. For a wedding pen a Monotype Corsiva would look nice, or Edwardian Script if you're looking for more flowing. If you're just doing one or two lines, he prefers the pen fully assembled. Nothing need be done over the colorfill. He had a one day turn-around time for my 2 pens and prices were reasonable.

He was recommended by several here on IAP, and I concur after my one transaction. I'll be using him again.
