Engraving Pens

I have many customers that want their new pen engraved with a name. I am considering going this route but would like to hear about others that started engraving. What equipment did you buy and what are the costs and learning curve?

Learning curve will depend partly on your comfort with using graphics software to modify pictures. CorelDraw is popular with laser engravers.

I've got a 1000mw NEJE laser and it works great. It was about $70 and worth it. Granted, it's small in size but if you are only doing small items it will work just fine. I've used it to make a bunch of coasters and openers as seen in this thread....

We found a small company that does laser engraved plaques and awards for Nellis AFB. They are great to work with and do great work. You might look for someone similar in your area if your budget doesn't support a laser.
